Koggala House is a recently built boutique villa on the banks of tranquil Koggala Lake on the south coast of Sri Lanka. The house is situated in a quiet and peaceful rural area surrounded by rice paddy, cinnamon plantations and coconut trees but it is only a ten minute drive to the beach in a local tuk-tuk or taxi. The nearest beach is Kabalana, a wide stretch of beautiful clean white sand renowned for its surfing and safe swimming. The famous Sri Lankan stick fishermen are nearby. The Galle Fort heritage site is 15 kilometres west and the huge sandy bay and colourful fishing boats of Weligama are 15 kilometres east. Mirissa Harbour is a short drive along the coast for whale watching trips.
Koggala House has a central living area and four bedrooms, all constructed as connected but separate buildings. Built with the local Dutch colonial style in mind – rows of columns, high ceilings, cooling fans and terracotta floors – the owners have added a contemporary touch with the fittings and furniture.
The bedrooms each have a modern ensuite bathroom, ample storage space, are fully air-conditioned with mosquito nets and fans over the bed, casual soft seating, a computer desk, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and a mini fridge. Two rooms have a bathtub and a sofa bed for an extra guest or for children. One bedroom has an outdoor shower and its own private walled garden for added privacy. Each bedroom has a shady, spacious indoor/outdoor verandah with casual seating to enjoy the morning birdsong, read a book, meditate or relax and watch the evening sunset.
The House sits in beautifully landscaped lakeside gardens and benefits from a lap pool and an adjacent kids/plunge pool.
Koggala House is offered with a chef, housekeeping and outdoor staff for rental as a whole villa or, subject to availability, by the room.
