Mala Villa is a decidedly contemporary architect designed villa inspired by its setting. The sloping site leads down to the shore of a tranquil lake and has been used to full advantage. Mala, which was built in 2008, is situated on the shores of Bird Lake (aka Hikkaduwa Lake) at the end of a quiet road just 10 minutes away from the beaches, restaurants and shops of Hikkaduwa Town. Mala offers a welcome change to the colonial style of beach villas which line the coast.
The property was designed by architect Rihan Peruma and the simplicity of his design with lofty, light-filled interiors, enhanced by contemporary furniture and the bold use of colour creates an environment which is a joy to encounter. High ceilings, natural air flow and cement floors keep the villa cool and comfortable. Huge picture windows give uninterrupted views of the lake at the foot of the gardens just beyond the private infinity pool.
Mala sleeps up to six adults in three ensuite bedrooms – two doubles and a twin which can also be configured as a double. There are extensive light-filled living and dining areas both inside and out providing multiple options for relaxing either as a group or alone.
Mala is primarily a self-catering villa – there is a fully equipped kitchen for your use – however if required we can arrange for a daily cook to come in at a modest additional charge. The rent includes a full-time housekeeper to look after you and to tend to the grounds and pool.
